Air travel costs also rise around Diwali after Dussehra – Punekar News

Pune, 13 October 2022: Due to the high cost of flights during Dussehra, many people have had to stretch their holiday finances or cancel their travel plans. The situation does not seem to change much as Diwali approaches.

In comparison to places like Delhi or Bengaluru with many connections, airfare from Pune to many cities, especially smaller ones like Patna and Ranchi with less connectivity, is incredibly expensive.

Santosh Bharose, a resident of Viman Nagar, said, “We were planning to travel to Patna to celebrate Diwali with our family back home. But, due to the exorbitant price of the trip, only my wife will travel to Patna, while I will stay with our children in Pune. I can’t afford to spend Rs 70,000 on a plane ticket to Patna. The train is also not an option as there are no tickets available.

The demand for travel and air tickets has increased. According to a Pune-based travel agency, RAAJ Tours and Travels, “Air fares on popular routes are increasing from hubs like Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Bengaluru. After a two-year decline in demand caused by travel restrictions during the Covid outbreak, the 2022 holiday season has seen a substantial increase in demand across all sectors. 14.5% compared to 2021 due to the strong increase in demand this year.”

According to Owner of Devam Tours and Travels and Director of Association of Travel Agents of Pune, Nilesh Bhansali, ”Air fares during this festive season including Diwali were more than 40% higher than in 2019 This time, tickets are between Rs 35,000 and Rs 40,000, compared to Diwali 2019 prices of Rs 18,000 to Rs 20,000 per sector.”
