Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week returns for 2nd year
It takes all of us to end hunger and homelessness. That’s why, from November 14-18, the community is invited to join Father Joe’s Villages and Mission Fed Credit Union for Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, an annual recognition where everyone can support essential actions to end food and housing insecurity in the region.
Beginning November 14, the San Diego community is invited to take action during the week-long awareness event with three main actions: educational, service, participation, fundraising and outreach events. advocacy. Those who donate on Nov. 17 will have their contributions up to $25,000 matched dollar-for-dollar by Mission Fed.
According to a Hunger in San Diego report, nearly one in four San Diego County residents suffer from nutritional insecurity. The 2022 point-in-time count by the San Diego Regional Task Force on Homelessness indicated that more than 8,000 people in the San Diego area are homeless and 4,000 are unsheltered. When people experience both hunger and homelessness, these combined stresses can lead to short- and long-term health issues that make it even harder for people to end their homelessness.
In addition to providing meals and shelter, discussion and awareness can allow organizations like Father Joe’s Villages to move the region closer to ending hunger and homelessness forever through action on the ground and long term.

To increase awareness of food insecurity and the effects of homelessness in the community, Father Joe’s Villages will provide a social media toolkit that addresses the ways in which language and behaviors affect public perception on these issues.
