Local call center helps boost ND tourism

BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) – The North Dakota Department of Tourism is getting calls from around the world. A team of North Dakotans are helping answer these calls and providing status information.

Tucked away in a corner of the tourist office, Deanne works hard to spread the word about North Dakota and what it has to offer.

“I have so much to say and share this love,” said Deanne Cunningham, group travel marketing manager.

So far this year, there have been 1.4 million unique visitors to the ND Tourism website, 64 million impressions on digital advertising and 84% of users have watched video ads until the end. end.

“People are interested in the messages and visuals we put out about North Dakota,” said Tourism Director Sarah Otte Coleman. Popular destinations that callers want more information about are Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the International Peace Garden.

“A lot of scenic drives and back streets are getting a lot of love this year too, I think people just want to get out and experience nature,” Cunningham said.

Deanna has had a special connection with her work since growing up in Bismarck. She can add insight from her personal experiences and share her love for the state.

“That’s all, that’s totally all. I’ve traveled all over the state; I spoke with so many people,” Cunningham said.

Many visitors are interested in rural experiences, such as ranches or farms; wanting to get a taste of North Dakota life.

“So we’re also really encouraging people to get off the main I-94 and come down and experience something new and unique in North Dakota,” Otte Coleman said.

North Dakota Tourism also has a new chat feature on its website, helping answer questions about the state.

North Dakota Tourism had a banner year in 2021, both in person and on the website. They hope to build on that this year.
