What People Look For in Washington State Vacations | Washington

(The Center Square) – Washington State’s top three Airbnb destinations are Seattle, Leavenworth, and Ocean Shores. The most sought-after amenities in the Evergreen State are a hot tub, sauna, and luxury bathroom.

Thus concludes Investment Property Exchange Services, Inc. – known as IPX1031 – after looking at Google Trends in every state in the country. Google Trends is a website that analyzes the popularity of top search queries in Google Search across different regions and languages.

Based in San Francisco, CA Airbnb, Inc. operates an online marketplace for accommodations, primarily homestays for vacation rentals and tourism activities. The platform is accessible through the website and the mobile application.

“Washington’s top destinations for Airbnbs really reflect the diversity of the state,” Collin Czarnecki, study researcher for IPX1031, explained in an email to The Center Square. “On one side you have Seattle, the tourist hub of Washington, which attracts visitors looking for accommodations outside of hotels in a bustling urban center.”

He went on to say, “Then, on the other hand, you have the mountain town of Leavenworth and the coastal setting of Ocean Shores, which exemplify the popularity of scenic destinations among Washington residents.”

Leavenworth is a Bavarian-style village in the Cascade Mountains in central Washington.

Ocean Shores in Gray’s Harbor County is a small coastal town known for its long sandy beaches surrounded by low dunes and a network of lakes and waterways.

“Given the spectacular scenery, mountain and water views of each of these Airbnb hotspots, it’s no surprise to see Washington residents want to indulge in spa-like amenities like hot tubs, saunas and luxury bathrooms in their Airbnb rentals,” Czarnecki explained.

After enduring COVID-19 travel lockdowns and restrictions, IPX1031 says Americans are catching the travel bug again as the virus appears to be going from pandemic to endemic.

“Travel demand is on the rise again after two years of pandemic vacations and road trips,” notes the IPX1310 study. “Many Americans are traveling domestically and planning their next summer trip.”

That could mean more summer tax revenue for Washington. As of October 15, 2015, Airbnb collects taxes on behalf of hosts who rent guest rooms, apartments, or vacation homes to in-state visitors and send them to the state. Department of Revenue.

Airbnb’s economic impact on Washington State was evident in the summer of 2019 — before the pandemic — when hosts earned $132 million and attracted more than 778,000 guests between Memorial Day weekend from this year and Labor Day weekend.

Local governments in Washington have also tried, unsuccessfully so far via the Legislature, to get in on the Airbnb action.

In 2021, Senate Bill 5012 did not leave the committee. The legislation would have allowed municipalities to levy an excise tax of up to 10% on short-term rentals and use the revenue for affordable housing programs.

The bill was reintroduced by resolution in 2022 and retained in its current state.
